January In My Kitchen

Firstly I would like to wish all a Very Happy, Healthy, Productive and Prosperous New Year:)

In My Kitchen This Month

An Egyptian Basbousa, very simple to make from the Maeve O'Meara Food Safari TV series and book.

Left over ham, eggs from our chickens, home grown zucchini, tomatoe and onions make a tasty meal to enjoy with a side salad.
Love this time of year with all the beautiful stone fruits available and of course mangoes by the tray are very addictive.
A Maifan Stone Mill Grinder that I picked up on Gumtree for $20 used by the Japanese for grinding Matcha Tea used in their tea ceremonies, I have tea growing here so I am going to attempt to process my own green tea, couldn't get any fresher and purer than that.

Please take a look at Celia's blog Fig Jame and Lime Cordial for other interesting In My Kitchen Posts.

Have a great day

Shirley :)

  1. Hi Shirly, that basbousa looks great. So does your dinner with all your home grown produce in it.

  2. Oooh Shirley, that stone mill looks very interesting! Could you grind flour in it? Your slice looks wonderful, and so good made with your homegrown produce! Thanks for sharing your kitchen with us, and all the best for a fabulous 2013!

  3. Morning Celia, not sure whether flour could be ground in it, I think it would be a very slow process, spices would be great to use it for but I want to give grinding tea a go, so I have been looking up the process involved in producing my own green tea. :)

  4. Hi Shirley. Thank you for visiting my blog. Pleased to hear that you have visited Beelarong Community Farm where I have my allotment. We meet every Wednesday morning to work in the community garden and all sit down to morning tea at 10am. Just in case you find yourself free on a Wednesday morning come join us for morning tea. I'm looking forward to following your blog. I notice that you have a regular monthly veggie growing group in Brisbane. Would you like to share more details of this group? Best wishes. Jean
